GAC BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK (PDF)
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello’s LA Farmer (pictured left) and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Darcie Dick (pictured right) have been named the Great American Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week after leading their respective teams to a pair of conference wins over the past week. This week’s award period covers games played on January 19 and 21. The games played on January 23 will be reflected in next week’s report.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arkansas-Monticello senior guard LA Farmer has earned his second GAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award of the season after averaging 27.5 points per game conference wins over Southwestern Oklahoma State (86-82) and East Central (75-69) at home inside Steelman Field House last Thursday and Saturday. The Carrollton, Ga. native started the week with a season-high 33-point effort in the win over SWOSU, shooting 12-of-17 from the field and 7-of-9 from thefree-throw line. Two days later, Farmer led the Boll Weevils (14-3, 4-1 GAC) to their fourth conference win of the season with 22 points and six rebounds in the win over ECU. He made 4-of-12 shots from the field in that win, while scoring the other half of his point total at the charity stripe, where he sunk 11-of-12 foul shots. Farmer also tallied a total of seven assists and four steals throughout the week.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Southwestern Oklahoma State senior guard Darcie Dick has been named the GAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading the Bulldogs (10-5, 5-1 GAC) to the top of the league standings with conference wins over Arkansas-Monticello (88-82 OT) and Southern Arkansas (80-73) on the road last Thursday and Saturday. The Cordell, Okla. native averaged a double-double of 22.5 points and 10.5 rebound per game throughout the week. She started the weekly campaign with her second double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win over UAM, while also tallying five steals in the contest. Two days later, Dick recorded her fifth 20-point effort of the year with 25 in the win over SAU, highlighted by an 11-of-14 outing at the free-throw line. She also added seven rebounds in the win.
