OBU ADVANCES TO GAC SOCCER TITLE GAME WITH 1-0 WIN

WEATHERFORD, Okla. –
Ouachita Baptist’s Sarah Broyles scored off a rebound in the 78th minute for the game’s only goal as the Lady Tigers enacted a matter of revenge, beating East Central in Friday’s first Great American Conference Women’s Soccer Championship semifinal contest.
 
ECU, who beat Ouachita in the 2011 GAC Women’s Soccer Championship title game controlled play throughout the first half, but could never capitalize with a goal. East Central (4-11-4) fired off seven shots, four on target, in the opening 45 minutes, but Ouachita goalkeeper Shelby Shepherd stood tall, stopping all four. Ouachita Baptist (10-7-1) mustered only two shots and neither came on net.
 
The beginning of the second half took on a similar feel to the first half. East Central continued attacking and pieced together multiple scoring threats. Shepherd held her ground throughout. She finished the game by making nine saves. Six game following shots on goal by ECU’s Ashley Bradford.
 
Ouachita’s moment came in the 78th minute when freshman Sammi Mack fired a shot on goal. ECU’s Hunter Malcolm got a hand on it and deflected the shot off the crossbar. Broyles raced in a deposited the loose ball into the net for her third goal of the season and her second game-winning tally of the year
 
Despite being outshot 15-4, The Lady Tigers advanced to their second-straight GAC Women’s Soccer title game. They will face the winner of the Southwestern Oklahoma State-Harding contest at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Lady Tigers split their regular-season the Lady Bisons and dropped both games with the Bulldogs.
