GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (12/17/2012)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Kimmi Sawatzky and Arkansas Tech’s Bobby Hatchett received the Great American Conference’s Women’s and Men’s Basketball Players of the Week honors for their performances in the sixth week of the 2012-13 regular season.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kimmi Sawatzky, Southwestern Oklahoma State, G, So., Weatherford, Okla.
Sawatzky came off the bench and scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the first half of SWOSU’s 91-81 win against Southern Nazarene. Sawatzky connected on 6-of-7 from the floor and she paced five Lady Bulldogs who scored in double figures. SWOSU improved to 8-1 for the first time in more than a decade.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bobby Hatchett, Arkansas Tech, G, Jr., Sikeston, Mo.
In a rematch of the 2012 NCAA Division II Tournament South Central Regional championship, he scored a season-high 22 points as the Wonder Boys ended the fourth-longest home win streak in the country and handed the Mustangs just their second home loss in their last 62 games. Hatchett came into Saturday’s contest with Midwestern State averaging 7.0 points per game. Of his 22 points, 14 came from the free-throw line.
