RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello senior pitcher Kayla Jackson (pictured left) and East Central senior first baseman Emily Kennemer (pictured right) have earned spots on the postseason all-region teams announced this week.
Jackson, the 2012 Great American Conference Pitcher of the Year, earned a spot on the Daktronics All-South Central Region First Team as well as a first team selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-South Central Region First Team. Kennemer, the 2012 GAC Player of the Year, joined Jackson on the Daktronics All-Region First Team.
In addition to her all-conference honors, Jackson (Hallsville, Texas) also earned the GAC tournament most valuable player award after collecting four victories and only allowing three runs during her team’s run to the 2012 GAC tournament championship. She went 31-6 in the circle with a 1.07 ERA during her final season in a UAM uniform. She tossed a total of 241.1 innings, turning in 26 complete games, 10 shutouts, three saves and 185 strikeouts. Jackson puttogether a streak of four consecutive weeks to end the 2012 season of either being named the GAC’s player or pitcher of the week. In addition to her pitching numbers, Jackson was among the league’s top five in six offensive categories, including tying Kennemer for the league-high of 11 homeruns. Jackson led the league with 42 runs batted in.
Kennemer (Mesquite, Texas) led the GAC in seven offensive categories – batting average (.455), hits (66), home runs (11), doubles (16), total bases (117), on base percentage (.527) and slugging percentage (.807). She was also recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District squad with a cumulative grade point average of 3.97, majoring in education and kinesiology. Kennemer was a three-time GAC Softball Player of the Week during the 2012 season, including the first ever award on February 7.
