RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – East Central’s Brandon Lucas and Arkansas Tech’s Cara Neighbors garnered the Great American Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week honors for their performances during the fifth week of the 2013-14 regular season.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brandon Lucas, East Central, G/F, Jr., Moore, Okla.
Lucas led the Tigers to road victories at Harding and Arkansas Tech as they became the first program in GAC history to pull off that weekend sweep. He averaged 23.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the two contests. He shot 68.2 percent from the floor, going 15-for-22 and 5-for-7 on 3-pointers. He went 8-for-9 in the win at Harding.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Cara Neighbors, Arkansas Tech, G, So., Lonoke, Ark.
Neighbors helped the Golden Suns improve to 5-1 and 2-0 in GAC play in an 88-61 home win against East Central. She scored a game-high 19 points in 30 minutes of action. She connected on 6-of-9 shots and hit a pair of 3-point field goals. She added three assists as she continues to lead Golden Suns in both scoring and assists.
