HARDING EXTENDS LEAD AT GAC WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Harding pushed its lead at the Great American Conference’s Women’s Golf Championships to 12 shots after recording the lowest team score in the brief history of the event. The Lady Bisons shot a team score of 307 on Tuesday at the Hot Springs Country Club.
 
The top four Lady Bisons finished the day in the top 13 led by Emily Plyler and Soyun Kim. The pair concluded the day tied for second place with two-round totals of 9-over-par 153. Brittany Marquez shot a 76 to move into a tie for fourth place. Becca Godman posted a second-round score six shots better than her round-one total to move into 13th place.
 
Henderson State moved up into second place by lowering its team score by 13 strokes. Katie Flinn recorded the lowest 18-hole round in the two-year history of the event with an even-par 72 to vault into first place on the individual side. She leads the field by four strokes with a two-day total of five-over 149. All four Lady Reddies finished round two among the top 17 individuals.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State dropped back one spot to third place. Arkansas Tech remained in fourth position while East Central held down fifth place. Each team’s top golfer - SWOSU’s Ashlynn Hall, ATU’s Rebecka Surtevall and ECU’s Ashley Cardwell - closed Tuesday tied with Marquez for fourth place. The Golden Suns improved by nine strokes from Monday and the Lady Tigers bettered their first-round total by 10 shots.
 
Arkansas-Monticello, Southern Arkansas and Ouachita Baptist rounded out the eight-team standings. Among the 10 individuals competing from Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State, the Lady Rangers’ Stephanie Martin kept her place inside the top 10. She shot her second-straight 78 to finish the day tied for eighth. Jordan Leibold again paced the way from the Crimson Storm. After 36 holes, she sits in a tie for 14th place.
 
Final-round play begins Tuesday at 8 a.m. with Southern Arkansas and Ouachita Baptist teeing off first.
