RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – East Central’s Gina Mengwasser and Arkansas Tech’s Victoria Huie claimed the Great American Conference’s Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for the ninth week of play, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gina Mengwasser, East Central, C, Jr., Edmond, Okla.
Over the final three games of the Lady Tigers’ series with Southern Nazarene, Mengwasser went 6-for-9 at the plate and hit a home run in each of those games. For the week, she totaled seven RBI and slugged 1.250. In her last 10 games, she has hit .484 with five home runs and 14 RBI.
  
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Victoria Huie, Arkansas Tech, RHP, So., Pottsville, Ark.
Huie pitched complete-game victories against Pittsburg State and No. 5 Southeastern Oklahoma State. In the Golden Suns’ 8-3 victory against the Gorillas, she allowed five hits and two earned runs and struck out five. In the series opener against the nationally ranked Savage Storm, she threw all 11 innings and gave up just four hits and two earned runs.
 
NOTABLE NOMINEES
- Lacie Cook, SS, Jr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Went 4-for-8 with three doubles in two games against Arkansas Tech)
- Siarra Gomez, 1B, So., Arkansas Tech (Hit .545 as the Golden Suns went 3-1; collected three doubles and drove in four)
- Brittany Wood, 3B, Sr., Southern Arkansas (Slugged .923 during series against Northwestern Oklahoma State)
 
NOTABLE PITCHING NOMINEES
- Jacee Bennett, RHP, So., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Did not allow an earned run and struck out 9 in 8.2 IP vs ATU)
- Kellie Mason, RHP, Jr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Threw three CG against SAU; Struck out season-high 10 in game one)
- Lacey Paulk, RHP, Fr., East Central (Went 2-0 with a complete game against Southern Nazarene)
- Shelby McWhorter, RHP, So., Ouachita Baptist (Allowed only one earned run in 11.2 IP against SWOSU)
