GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (1/20/2014)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Sarina Sayama and Ouachita Baptist’s Micah Delph won the Great American Conference’s Women’s and Men’s Basketball Player of the Week awards for their performances during the 11th week of the 2013-14 regular season.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarina Sayama, Southwestern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., Hanford, Calif.
Sayama helped the Lady Bulldogs close out the Rankin Williams Fieldhouse with wins against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist. She scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 90-82 victory against the Lady Reddies on Thursday. On Saturday, she scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting. For the week, she shot 59.3 percent from the floor.
 
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Micah Delph, Ouachita Baptist, G, Jr., Conway, Ark.
Delph tied the OBU single-game record and set the GAC single-game mark with 10 3-point field goals in the Tigers’ 87-81 win at Northwestern Oklahoma State. He scored 15 straight points during a 3:26 stretch of the second half. He went 7-of-9 from the arc in the second half. He followed up with a 24-point effort against SWOSU. For the week, he went 13-for-21 on 3’s.

  • Kristin Milster, G, Sr., Southern Nazarene (Set career highs with 28 points and nine assists vs Southeastern Oklahoma State)
  • Jacinda Myers-Sanders, F, Jr., Arkansas Tech (Averaged 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in wins vs UAM and SAU)
  • Dilan Webster, F, Jr., East Central (Led ECU to its first win vs Southern Nazarene in 24 games with 21 points and 9 rebounds)
 
NOTABLE MEN’S NOMINEES
  • Alre’k Brown, F, Jr., Southern Arkansas (Shot 61.1 percent from the floor and averaged 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds)
  • Will Francis, F, Fr., Harding (Recorded just the sixth 30-point game ever by a Harding freshman with 34 points vs SAU)
  • Melvin Haynes, G, Sr., Henderson State (Went 10-for-16 from the 3-point arc vs SWOSU and Northwestern Oklahoma State)
  • Gary Inglett, F, Jr., Southwestern Oklahoma State (Helped extend SWOSU’s win streak to five by averaging 21.0 PPG)
  • Brandon Lucas, F, Jr., East Central (Led Tigers with 21 points to win vs SNU to push win total past 2012-13 total of nine)
  • C.J. Smith, G, Jr., Southern Nazarene (Hit on 64.5 percent of his shots in scoring 53 points against ECU and Southeastern)
  • Brandon Wilson, F, Sr., Arkansas-Monticello (Averaged 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds on 59.3 percent shooting)
