GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (1/27/2014)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas’ Alre’k Brown and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Sarina Sayama won the Great American Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards for their performances during the 12th week of the 2013-14 regular season.
 
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alre’k Brown, Southern Arkansas, F, Jr., Dawson, Ga.
Brown played a key role in SAU’s 2-1 week. He averaged 19.7 points per game and shot 64.7 percent from the floor. He also averaged 7.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. In SAU's 99-97 OT win against UAM, he scored a season-high 28 points on 9-of-12 shooting. In the 73-71 OT win against OBU, Brown notched his fourth double-double - 17 points and 11 rebounds.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarina Sayama, Southwestern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., Hanford, Calif.
Sayama earned her second-straight GAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor as she averaged 24.5 points in wins against Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State. After tallying 23 points against the Crimson Storm, she helped SWOSU earn a win in the opener at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center with 27 points and eight 3-point field goals.

  • Jacob Gibson, F, So., Harding (Set Harding record with nine 3-point field goals and 17 3-point attempts against East Central)
  • Urald King, F, Sr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Grabbed 16 rebound vs ECU and followed up with 18 against Arkansas Tech)
  • Brandon Wilson, F, Sr., Arkansas-Monticello (Averaged 19.7 points and shot 57.7 percent from the floor as UAM went 2-1)
  • Bruce Wright, F, Sr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Scored 21 points on 8-11 shooting as Rangers won at SWOSU)

  • Erin Walling, G, Jr., East Central (Scored 20 points as Lady Tigers handed No. 6 Harding its first loss of the season)
  • Emily Williams, G, Jr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Averaged 19.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in wins against ECU and ATU)
