RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the second week of the 2014-15 basketball season. Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Emily Williams received the women’s award and East Central’s Stirling Thomas won the men’s honor.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Emily Williams, Southeastern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., Martin’s Mill, Texas
Williams recorded the first 40-point game by a Savage Storm player since 2003 when she went for 40 points in the GAC opener against Henderson State. She went 12-for-18 from the floor against the Reddies. In helping Southeastern improve to 5-0, she averaged 22.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. She shot 56.1 percent from the floor and made 7-of-10 3-pointers.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Stirling Thomas, East Central, G, So., Elgin, Oklahoma
Thomas shot the Tigers to a pair of GAC victories. He opened with 22 points and five assists against Arkansas-Monticello. He shot 7-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the 3-point arc. Two days later, he scored 36 points and added seven steals vs Henderson State. He made 11-of-14 shots and 7-of-8 on 3-pointers. He helped the Tigers to their first 2-0 start in the GAC.
