GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (12/1/14)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the third week of the 2014-15 basketball season. Ouachita Baptist’s Tirrell Brown earned the men’s honor and Arkansas Tech’s Fatima Adams won the women’s award.
 
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tirrell Brown, Ouachita Baptist, F, Jr., Jacksonville, Arkansas
Brown shot an incredible 86.8 percent from the field in three games. He began with 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting against Champion Baptist. At the Arkansas Tech Thanksgiving Classic, he opened with 20 points against Southwest Baptist. Against Northeastern State, he went 13-for-14 in scoring 33 points and added eight rebounds. He earned Tournament MVP honors.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Fatima Adams, Arkansas Tech, F, Jr., Bryan Texas
Adams helped the Golden Suns improve to 5-0 for just the third time since 1998. Against Payne, she recorded a double-double with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 10 rebounds. In a road contest against North Alabama, she scored 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting with 12 rebounds. Against Oklahoma Christian, she scored 22 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and added four steals.

  • Martell Collins, Jr., F, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Led SWOSU to two wins; averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds)
  • Jaron Davis, Jr., PG, Southern Arkansas (Scored 16 points with four assists and four steals in win against Central Baptist)
  • Laakeem Henderson, Jr., G, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Led Rangers with 16.0 points per game in two close losses)
  • Francisco Hukill, Jr., G, Southern Nazarene (Helped the Crimson Storm start 5-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season)
  • Sharif Hudson, Sr., G, Arkansas-Monticello (Scored 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a win against No. 21 Delta State)
  • Andraz Kavas, Jr., F, Harding (Averaged 27.0 points and 6.5 rebounds on 58.1 percent shooting in two narrow losses)
  • Danny Powell, So., F, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Hit 16-of-23 shots and averaged 18.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG in two games)
  • Henry Pwono, Sr., F, East Central (Named to the Doubletree Houlihans Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team)
  • Branden Williams, Jr., G, Arkansas-Monticello (In three wins, averaged 11.7 PPG and 6.0 RPG and made 14-of-23 field goals)
 
NOTABLE WOMEN’S NOMINEES
  • Kamera Bozeman, So., C, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Totaled 11 points and five rebounds vs Oklahoma Panhandle State)
  • Katie Kapler, So., P, Ouachita Baptist (Hit all six shots vs Central Baptist; recorded a double-double vs Midwestern State)
  • Arielle Saunders, Sr., F, Harding (Earned Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament honors; averaged 16.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG)
  • Dilan Webster, Sr., F, East Central (Scored 30 points with eight rebounds and six assists against Cameron; averaged 23.0 PPG)
