RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the fifth week of the 2014-15 basketball season. Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Danny Powell captured the men’s award and Harding’s Arielle Saunders earned the women’s nod.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Danny Powell, Southeastern Oklahoma State, F, So., Phoenix, Arizona
Powell Helped the Savage Storm to its first win against a Division I school since transitioning from NAIA to the NCAA as he scored 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the 69-66 win at Tulsa. He followed that performance by recording his fourth double-double of the season - 18 points and 15 rebounds - in a 70-67 victory against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Arielle Saunders, Harding, F, Sr., Valley Springs, Ark.
Saunders became the fifth player in GAC history, and the 14th in school history, to reach the 1,000-point milestone as she scored 23 points in a 66-48 home victory against Henderson State. In only 22 minutes of play, she shot 9-of-15 from the floor and added nine rebounds and two blocks.
