RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the fourth week of the 2014-15 basketball season. East Central’s Taylor Fischer earned the women’s award and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Kenyan Borders claimed the men’s honor.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Taylor Fischer, East Central, G, Sr., Quanah, Texas
Fischer pushed the Tigers to a 4-0 mark in the GAC as she averaged 17.5 points per game in victories against Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Against the Bulldogs, she scored 16 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Against the Rangers, she scored 19 points and she made five 3-point field goals.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kenyan Borders, Southwestern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., Kansas City, Missouri
Borders came up with two clutch plays to give the Bulldogs a pair of wins. He hit the game-winning 3-pointer against East Central with 2.4 seconds remaining for a 58-57 win. He made the deciding free throw against Hillsdale Baptist with 2.0 seconds in an 82-81 win. He averaged 17.0 points, shot 41.6 percent from the 3-point arc and grabbed 4.0 rebounds per game.
