RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Sarina Sayama and Arkansas Tech’s Tyler Friedel earned the Great American Conference’s Women’s and Men’s Basketball Player of the Week awards for their performances during the 15th week of the 2013-14 regular season.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarina Sayama, Southwestern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., Hanford, Calif.
Sayama won her third GAC Player of the Week award over the last five weeks as she averaged 26.5 points in wins against East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma State to move the Lady Bulldogs into second place in the GAC standings. She set the GAC single-game record and tied the SWOSU mark with nine 3-point field goals against the Savage Storm.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tyler Friedel, Arkansas Tech, G, Jr., Victoria, Texas
Friedel hit 11-of-21 3-point field goals during the week in helping the Wonder Boys ascend into first place in the GAC with two weeks remaining. He went 8-for-13 in scoring a career-high 35 points at Ouachita Baptist. He connected on seven 3-pointers in the first half. Against Henderson State, he hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 14 seconds left in a 58-56 victory.
