GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (2/18/2014)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello’s Beth Johnson and Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Shelby Anderson received the Great American Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the third week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Beth Johnson, Arkansas-Monticello, CF, Sr., Allen, Texas
Johnson recorded five multi-hit games at the 8-State Classic as she helped the Cotton Blossoms to a 5-2 mark. She went 15-for-24 with two home runs, four triples and two doubles. She added two stolen bases. She scored 10 times and drove in 10 runs. She collected a four-hit game against Nebraska-Kearney and three-hit efforts vs William Jewell and Minnesota-Duluth.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Shelby Anderson, Northwestern Oklahoma State, P, Jr., Mountain Home, Ark.
One week after claiming the GAC’s Player of the honor, Anderson earned the Pitcher of the Week award as she posted a 3-0 mark at the 8-State Classic. She threw shutouts against Oklahoma Panhandle State and Drury and lowered her ERA to 0.27. Over 19.0 innings of work, she allowed 15 hits, struck out 12 and issued only one walk.

  • Lindy Fluman, SS, Sr., Southern Nazarene (Went 11-for-22 with her first home run of the season at the 8-State Classic)
  • Brooke Goad, LF, Fr., Southern Arkansas (Sparked SAU vs Midwestern State by going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI)
  • Siarra Gomez, 1B, Jr., Arkansas Tech (Hit safely in all four games at the 8-State Classic; hit .643 with a home run and six RBI)
  • Gena Mengwasser, C, Sr., East Central (Hit .500 with a pair of home runs and six RBI at the 8-State Classic)
  • Brookelynn Moon, INF, Fr., Harding (Scored six runs and hit .529 with a home run and three doubles at the 8-State Classic)
  • Shyanne Nichols, 3B, So., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Posted a .524 batting average and .905 slugging percentage)
  • Courtney Riddle, OF, So., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Hit two home runs and drove in eight runs in series vs Newman)

  • Victoria Huie, RHP, Jr., Arkansas Tech (Picked up wins against Northwest Missouri State and Minnesota State-Mankato)
  • Shayna Milam, RHP, Sr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Surrendered two earned runs over 10.1 innings against Newman)
  • Lacey Paulk, RHP, So., East Central (Allowed only two earned runs over 9.2 innings of work at the 8-State Classic)
  • Courtney Wilson, RHP, Sr., Arkansas-Monticello (Threw three complete games and her second shutout of the year)
  • Kayla Wyatt, RHP, So., Southern Nazarene (Earned two wins and struck out 16 in 18.0 innings at the 8-State Classic)
