GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (2/24/2014)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello’s Brandon Wilson picked up the Great American Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award while Henderson State’s Krystal Beachum and Harding’s Kristen Celsor shared the GAC Women’s honor following their performances during the 16th week of the 2013-14 regular season.
 
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Brandon Wilson, Arkansas-Monticello, F, Sr., Rayville, La.
Wilson garnered his third Player of the Week award after he led the Boll Weevils to a home win against first-place Arkansas Tech – a win that clinched a berth into the GAC Tournament – and their first road win at Harding since 2009. He scored 21 points with six rebounds and three blocks against the Wonder Boys. He followed up with 20 points and at Harding.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Krystal Beachum, Henderson State, G, Sr., Mexia, Texas
Krystal Beachum set the HSU and GAC single-game scoring record with 41 points in the Lady Reddies’ double-overtime win against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Less than 48 hours later, in another overtime game, Beachum scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Beachum needs just 10 more points to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kristen Celsor, Harding, F, Sr., Searcy, Ark.
Celsor picked up her fourth Player of the Week honor this season after she averaged 26.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals as the Lady Bisons clinched the regular-season title and improved to 25-1. She totaled 32 points a 67-39 win at Southern Arkansas. She tied her career high with 15 rebounds in the Lady Bisons’ 84-54 win against Arkansas-Monticello.

  • Colt Fason, F, Jr., Ouachita Baptist (Made 16-of-26 shots and averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds)
  • Hayden Johnson, F, Sr., Harding (Moved into the top 20 in career scoring at Harding after averaging 19.7 PPG in three games)
  • Urald King, F, Sr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Recorded double-doubles vs South Dakota M&T and Southern Nazarene)
  • Brandon Lucas, G/F, Jr., East Central (Scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting against Southern Nazarene)
  • Duke Reed, F, Sr., Southern Arkansas (Nearly averaged a double-double - 18.5 PPG and 9.0 RPG - vs ATU and Harding)
  • C.J. Smith, G, Jr., Southern Nazarene (Notched first double-double, 17 pts, 10 rebs, vs Southeastern; Scored 24 pts vs ECU)
  • Bruce Wright, F, Sr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (In comeback vs HSU, totaled 27 points, 10 rebounds and four steals)

  • Aminata Fall, C, Jr., Southern Nazarene (Recorded two double-doubles, her 18th and 19th this season, in two victories)
  • Nashia James, G, Sr., Ouachita Baptist (Helped OBU lock up a GAC Tournament berth by averaging 18.5 PPG and 8.0 RPG)
  • Chanel Miller, F, Jr., Southern Arkansas (Led SAU in scoring as she averaged 13.5 points per game)
  • Alycea Price, F, Sr., East Central (Tallied a career-high 24 points against SNU; went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line)
  • Emily Williams, G, Jr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Southern Nazarene)
