RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas’ Maddie Dow and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Laramie Beal shared the Great American Conference Player of the Week honor while Arkansas-Monticello’s Courtney Wilson claimed the first softball Pitcher of the Week award of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Laramie Beal, Southeastern Oklahoma State, DP, So., Coalgate, Okla.
Beal, a second-team All-GAC selection in 2013, opened her 2014 by hitting .462 at the St. Mary’s NCAA Division II College Classic. She collected a pair of doubles over the five-game event and she drove in five runs. She notched multi-hit games in wins against Texas A&M-International and St. Edward’s.
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Maddie Dow, Southern Arkansas, DH, Fr., Bonham, Texas
Dow made her first weekend as a collegiate softball player one to remember. In her first game, a 3-1 win against Shorter, she hit her first career home run as she belted a go-ahead two-run blast in the fifth inning. In the final game of the tournament, Dow set GAC and SAU single-game records for at-bats (7) and RBI (7) in a wild 22-17 win against Midwestern State.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Courtney Wilson, Arkansas-Monticello, RHP, Sr., Inverness, Miss.
Wilson opened her 2014 campaign by recording her third-career shutout, a 2-0 victory against Christian Brothers. She limited the Lady Bucs to only three hits and she left six runners stranded throughout the game. She struck out two batters in notching the third complete game of her Cotton Blossom career.
