RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Tyler Casada and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Mindy McElroy captured the Great American Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the sixth week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tyler Casada, Northwestern Oklahoma State, C, So., Rowlette, Texas
Casada reached base in six of her seven plate appearances, going 5-for-6 with a walk. For the series, she posted a 1.333 slugging percentage. She went 4-for-4 with a run scored in the series opener. In game two, she slugged a two-run home run as the Rangers completed the doubleheader sweep and remained in first place in the GAC.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Mindy McElroy, Southeastern Oklahoma State, RHP, Sr., Ringling, Okla.
McElroy won her second Pitcher of the Week award of her career after she picked up two wins against Arkansas Tech. In two appearances, she threw two complete games and allowed only five hits and one earned run. She threw the Savage Storm’s first shutout of the season, a 2-0 win on Friday. She held the Golden Suns to a .109 batting average.
