GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/4/2014)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Nazarene’s Sam Smith and Henderson State’s Kayla Williams captured the Great American Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the fifth week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sam Smith, Southern Nazarene, OF, Fr., Collinsville, Okla.
Smith hit .700 as the Crimson Storm picked up three wins against Southwestern Oklahoma State. She recorded a three-hit game in the 9-4 series opener with three runs scored and a stolen base. In the final game, she went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. She finished the series with a .727 on-base percentage and 1.100 slugging percentage.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kayla Williams, Henderson State, RHP, Sr., Longview, Texas
Williams earned three victories as the Lady Reddies completed four-game sweep of Arkansas-Monticello for the first time in school history. After picking up two victories on Friday, she threw a complete game as the Reddies claimed a 5-4 victory. She contributed at the plate with a .333 average and three RBI.

  • Sydney Kramer, OF, So., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Hit .538 and drove in six runs as Southeastern won three of four)
  • Shelby Miller RHP, Fr., Southern Arkansas (Collected eight hits, three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored against OBU)
  • Brookelynn Moon, INF, Fr., Harding (Hit two home runs and drove in seven RBI over the six-game week)
  • Leah Tigert, INF/OF, So., East Central (Posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and .688 on-base percentage vs Arkansas Tech)
  • Ashlyn White, DP/P, Fr., Henderson State (Registered four multi-hit games as Henderson State swept Arkansas-Monticello)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                  
  • Julianne Martinez, RHP, Sr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Threw her first career no-hitter in 3-0 win vs Southern Nazarene)
  • Shelby Miller RHP, Fr., Southern Arkansas (Earned a victory and two saves against Ouachita Baptist)
  • Nicole Nordie, RHP, Fr., East Central (Appeared in three games against Arkansas Tech; allowed only one earned run in 7.2 IP)
  • Kayla Wyatt RHP, So., Southern Nazarene (Tossed a pair of complete-game victories against Southwestern Oklahoma State)
