RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Lindsay Thorstenson and Arkansas-Monticello’s Katie Slaughter earned the Great American Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Weeks honor for the 11th week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lindsay Thorstenson, Northwestern Oklahoma State, CF, Jr., San Diego, Calif.
Thorstenson dominated at the plate as she hit .652 with 13 runs scored and a 1.565 slugging percentage for the week. She became only the sixth player in DII history to hit four home runs in a single game. She went 9-for-9 in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State. Her 5-for-5 performance in game two tied a school record for hits in a game.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Katie Slaughter, Arkansas-Monticello, RHP, Jr., Austin, Texas
Slaughter boasted a perfect 3-0 record for the week. She recorded a pair of shutouts in the Cotton Blossoms’ series with Southern Nazarene. For the week, she gave up just a single run spanning 23.0 innings pitched. She collected 13 strikeouts and issued only one walk.
