GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (4/22/2014)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Jessica Simmons and Arkansas Tech’s Sydnee Clark received the Great American Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Weeks honor for the 12th week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jessica Simmons, Southeastern Oklahoma State, 2B, So., Bethel, Okla.
Simmons recorded seven hits in 10 at bats in leading the Savage Storm three wins against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Combined with three walks, Simmons put up a .769 on-base percentage from the leadoff position. She successfully stole six bases without being caught once. She scored at least one run in all four games and totaled seven runs scored in the series.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Sydnee Clark, Arkansas Tech, RHP, Fr., Redfield, Ark.
Clark picked up a pair of complete-game victories against Henderson State to greatly hinder the Lady Reddies shot at the regular-season title. In Friday’s series opener, she struck out 10 in a 5-2 nine-inning victory. She came back for the finale and tossed a three-hit shutout. She held the Reddies to a .169 batting average over the two games.

  • Kinsey Beck, IF, So., Harding (Hit .538 in the Lady Bisons’ three victories against Ouachita Baptist)
  • Sarah Higginbotham, C, Jr., Southern Arkansas (Slugged two home runs and totaled nine RBI in leading SAU to a 3-1 week)
  • Megan Sanders, LF, Fr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Hit .400 in the Rangers’ split against East Central)
  • Leah Tigert, OF/IF, So., East Central (Tallied three doubles in going 9-for-20 during ECU’s six games last week)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                  
  • Sydney Dow, RHP, Fr., East Central (Collected two wins and a save over five appearances; struck out 33 over 22.1 innings)
  • Hanna Gill, RHP, Jr., Southern Arkansas (Threw a complete game against SNU; struck out seven and allowed six hits)
  • Amber Rollins, RHP, Jr., Harding (Set GAC single-game strikeout record with 15 against OBU; totaled 23 strikeouts in 17.0 IP)
  • Kellie Mason, RHP, Sr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Recorded two complete-game wins vs ECU; struck out 14 in 14.0 IP)
