GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (4/29/2014)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech’s Whitney Robinson and East Central’s Sydney Dow garnered the Great American Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for the final week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Whitney Robinson, Arkansas Tech, UTL, Jr., Choctaw, Okla.
Robinson led the Golden Suns to a 6-0 week as she posted a .792 on-base percentage clip from the lead off position. She went 12-for-17 against Northeastern State and Southern Nazarene. She homered twice, stole five bases and amassed 13 runs scored. She finished the weekend by going 5-for-5 in the finale against the Crimson Storm.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Sydney Dow, East Central, RHP, Fr., El Reno, Okla.
Dow threw a pair of shutouts against Ouachita Baptist, her third and fourth since April 12. Over the two shutouts against the Lady Tigers, she allowed only five hits and issued just three walks. She struck out 15 over the 12.0 innings of work. Dow held Ouachita Baptist to a .167 batting average.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                    
  • Audrey Farfan, 3B, Jr., Southern Arkansas (Totaled five doubles and four RBI in leading SAU to a 4-1 week)
  • Shyanne Nichols, 3B, So., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Led NWOSU to a sweep of UAM by hitting .583; scored three runs)
  • Haley Strawn, SS, Jr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Recorded three multi-hit games against HSU; hit .583 in the series)
  • Jordan VanPelt, UTL, So., East Central (Went 7-for-11 with a stolen base as ECU took three of four from Ouachita Baptist)
  • Ashlyn White, DP/P, Fr., Henderson State (Posted a 1.083 slugging percentage vs Southeastern; hit two home runs)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                  
  • Shelby Anderson, RHP, Jr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Reached 20-win milestone with two complete game wins vs UAM)
  • Sydnee Clark, RHP, Fr., Arkansas Tech (Threw two complete-game victories against Southern Nazarene)
  • Shelby Miller, RHP, Fr., Southern Arkansas (Struck out 21 and issued only one walk over 18.1 IP; held opponents to a .134 BA)
