RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the ninth week of the 2014-15 basketball season. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Jessica Penner dominated en route to earning the women’s award and Southern Arkansas’ Jaron Davis filled up the stat sheet in winning the men’s honor.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jessica Penner, Southwestern Oklahoma State, F, Jr., Cordell, Oklahoma
Penner made 19 consecutive field goals spanning the entire Ouachita Baptist win and the first half of the Bulldog victory against Southern Arkansas. She scored a SWOSU DII-era-record 39 points, two off the GAC single-game mark. She added 16 rebounds against OBU. She finished the week averaging 25.5 PPG, 12.0 RPG while connecting on 23-of-27 field goal tries.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jaron Davis, Southern Arkansas, G, Jr., New Orleans, Louisiana
Davis played an instrumental role as SAU picked up a pair of road wins to vault the Muleriders into sole possession of first place in the GAC. In a 59-58 win at ECU, Davis accounted for over half of the Muleriders' points as he scored a season-high 30 points, including two clutch free throws with seven seconds left. Against SWOSU, he scored 18 of his 24 points in the first half.
