RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the eighth week of the 2014-15 basketball season. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Martell Collins and Southern Arkansas’ Chauncy Williams shared the men’s award while SAU’s Rosa Bryant claimed the women’s honor.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Martell Collins, Southwestern Oklahoma State, F, Jr., Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Collins helped the Bulldogs pick up a pair of victories. He registered a double-double - 21 points and 12 rebounds - against the University of Science and Arts, his fifth double-double of the season. He followed up with 15 points and nine rebounds against the Southeastern Oklahoma State to average 18.0 points and 10.5 rebounds for the week.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Chauncy Williams, Southern Arkansas, G, Sr., Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Williams averaged 20.5 points per game as he helped lead the Muleriders to a 2-0 week in their first action after Christmas break. In each game, Williams, the GAC leader in 3-point field goals per game, made at least four three-pointers. He went 10-for-23 from the 3-point arc in the two games and moved up to 12th in the country in 3-point field goals per game.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Rosa Bryant, Southern Arkansas, F, Jr., Bastrop, Louisiana
Bryant turned in the top shooting performance in the GAC this season as she connected on 10-of-11 shots against Henderson State. After missing her first shot, she made her final 10 attempts as she finished with a team-high 21 points. She has scored at least 20 points in three of her last four games.
