GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (2/10/15)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the second week of the 2015 softball season. Henderson State’s Ashlyn White and Michelle Sorensen swept the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ashlyn White, Henderson State, DP/P, So., Longview, Texas
White turned a stellar week both with the bat and inside the circle. She went 10-for-17 during the HSU/OBU Ronnie Hawkins Invitational with two home runs. She scored eight runs and drove in 11. She finished the weekend with a .600 on-base percentage and a .941 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, she won two games, posted a 1.87 ERA and totaled 11 strikeouts.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Michelle Sorensen, Henderson State, RHP, Fr., Sherwood, Arkansas
Sorensen picked up the first three wins of her career as she helped the Reddies post a 5-1 mark at the HSU/OBU Ronnie Hawkins Invitational. She went 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA. She struck out 21 hitters and surrendered only six hits. She tossed a pair of complete games and she capped her week with a shutout of Missouri Southern.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Taylor Davis, Jr., C/OF, East Central (Scored five runs and drove in five at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic)
  • Peyton Garrett, Fr., OF, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Hit .462 with four runs scored and a stolen base)
  • Darian Harris, Jr., 1B, Southern Arkansas (Led SAU with a .429 average last week; homered and doubled three times)
  • Sarah Johnson, Fr., UTL, Ouachita Baptist (Drove in 11 runs and hit .556 at the HSU/OBU Ronnie Hawkins Invitational)
  • Kylie Lang, Sr., OF, Southern Nazarene (Hit .538 and scored three runs at the Lion Classic)
  • Courtney Riddle, Jr., OF/DP, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Went 10-for-20 with two home runs and seven RBI)
  • Sydney Tipton, Sr., DH/1B, Arkansas-Monticello (Collected five hits in 11 at bats at the HSU/OBU Ronnie Hawkins Invitational)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Sydney Dow, So., RHP, East Central (Struck out 14 in 12.0 innings of work at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic)
  • Jami Godwin, Fr., RHP, Southern Arkansas (Allowed just one earned run in 9.2 IP at the Charger Chillout)
  • Mary Nance, So., RHP, Ouachita Baptist (Threw shutouts against Lincoln and Missouri Western with seven strikeouts)
  • Katie Slaughter, Sr., RHP, Arkansas-Monticello (Recorded 14th career shutout in 8-0 win vs Christian Brothers)
