GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (2/17/15)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the third week of the 2015 softball season. Arkansas Tech’s Kambri Hill and Henderson State’s Sarah Gipson shared the Player of the Week award and Southern Nazarene’s Kayla Wyatt earned the Pitcher of the Week honor.
 
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kambri Hill, Arkansas Tech, OF, Jr., Springdale, Arkansas
Hill turned a most impressive debut with the Golden Suns as she led the offense with a .615 average at the 8 State Classic. She hit three home runs and drove in seven runs. She hit a game-ending home run against Northwest Missouri State in the bottom of the ninth inning and a go-ahead home run against No. 18 Emporia State. For the weekend, Arkansas Tech hit .475.
 
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Gipson, Henderson State, 1B, Sr., Grand Saline, Texas
Gipson powered the Reddies to a 4-0 record at the 8 State Classic in Bentonville as she hit .727 with 13 RBI during the weekend event. She drove in multiple runs in all four games. She hit a pair of home runs posted a 1.364 slugging percentage. She drove in five runs in the finale, an 11-4 triumph against Lindenwood.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kayla Wyatt, Southern Nazarene, RHP, Jr., Purcell, Oklahoma
Wyatt turned in a pair of dominating performances inside the circle at the 8 State Classic. She struck out a career-high 14 batters against Southwest Baptist and she followed up by striking out seven in a five-inning victory against Rockhurst. In two starts, both complete games, she totaled 21 strikeouts against only one walk. She held the opposition to a .217 average.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Ashton Atwell, Jr., OF, Southern Arkansas (Hit four home runs, tallied 22 total bases and drove in eight at the 8 State Classic)
  • Carolyn Clayton, Sr., OF, Harding (Hit. 455 at 8 State Classic, including a three-run HR vs William Jewell to force extra innings)
  • Sarah Johnson, Fr., UTL, Ouachita Baptist (Posted a .727 OBP and a 1.273 slugging percentage at the 8 State Classic)
  • Ashley Jones, Jr., C/1B, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Hit three home runs, including twice vs Washburn with eight RBI)
  • Kylie Lang, Sr., OF, Southern Nazarene (Collected eight hits in 10 at bats; stole a base and scored six runs)
  • Allora Miller, Sr., P/1B, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Homered twice and drove in six runs at the 8 State Classic)
  • Jordynn VanPelt, Jr., UTL, East Central (Hit .500 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in two games)
  • Holly Wilmarth, Jr., CF, Arkansas-Monticello (Registered five extra-base hits, with two HR, as UAM went 4-1 at 8 State Classic)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • McKenzie Ashby, So., RHP, Arkansas-Monticello (Threw an eight-inning complete game against Fort Hays State)
  • Jacee Bennett, Sr., RHP, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Recorded two wins and held opponents to a .156 batting average)
  • Miranda Cuff, So., RHP, Southern Arkansas (Posted a 2-0 record with a pair of complete games at the 8 State Classic)
  • Victoria Huie, Sr., RHP, Arkansas Tech (Went 2-0 at the 8 State Classic, including a win against No. 18 Emporia State)
  • Amber Rollins, Sr., RHP, Harding (Threw two complete games, allowed six hits in 12.0 IP, held opponents to a .146 BAA)
  • Michelle Sorensen, Fr., RHP, Henderson State (Improved to 5-1 as won twice and struck out 13 in 12.0 innings pitched)
