RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the third week of the 2015 softball season. Arkansas Tech’s Kambri Hill and Henderson State’s Sarah Gipson shared the Player of the Week award and Southern Nazarene’s Kayla Wyatt earned the Pitcher of the Week honor.
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kambri Hill, Arkansas Tech, OF, Jr., Springdale, Arkansas
Hill turned a most impressive debut with the Golden Suns as she led the offense with a .615 average at the 8 State Classic. She hit three home runs and drove in seven runs. She hit a game-ending home run against Northwest Missouri State in the bottom of the ninth inning and a go-ahead home run against No. 18 Emporia State. For the weekend, Arkansas Tech hit .475.
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Gipson, Henderson State, 1B, Sr., Grand Saline, Texas
Gipson powered the Reddies to a 4-0 record at the 8 State Classic in Bentonville as she hit .727 with 13 RBI during the weekend event. She drove in multiple runs in all four games. She hit a pair of home runs posted a 1.364 slugging percentage. She drove in five runs in the finale, an 11-4 triumph against Lindenwood.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kayla Wyatt, Southern Nazarene, RHP, Jr., Purcell, Oklahoma
Wyatt turned in a pair of dominating performances inside the circle at the 8 State Classic. She struck out a career-high 14 batters against Southwest Baptist and she followed up by striking out seven in a five-inning victory against Rockhurst. In two starts, both complete games, she totaled 21 strikeouts against only one walk. She held the opposition to a .217 average.
