GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/2/15)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the final week of the 2014-15 basketball regular season. Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Taylor Smaller claimed the men’s award and Arkansas Tech’s Fatima Adams garnered the women’s award.
 
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Taylor Smaller, Southeastern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., St. Paul, Minnesota
Smaller turned in a pair of stellar efforts to lead the Savage Storm to two wins. In locking up a tournament bid, he matched the GAC season-high of 36 points vs East Central. He hit eight 3-pointers and had a stretch where he scored 17 straight points. Against SWOSU, he made 6-of-12 3-pointers and scored 27 points. For the week, he averaged 31.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 5.0 APG.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Fatima Adams, Arkansas Tech, F, Jr., Bryan, Texas
Adams helped the Golden Suns clinch a share of their 24th regular-season title in 38 seasons as she averaged 19.5 points and shot 55.2 percent from the field. In a showdown with Harding, she scored 20 points, made 8-of-13 shots and pulled down 10 rebounds. She added three blocks and three steals. On Saturday, vs UAM, she scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

  • Jaron Davis, Jr., G, Southern Arkansas (After missing three games, hit 9-of-16 3-pointers and averaged 17.5 points)
  • D.J. Jethroe, Jr., G, Arkansas Tech (Totaled 40 points and 14 rebounds in wins against Harding and Arkansas-Monticello)
  • Andraz Kavas, Jr., F, Harding (Averaged 26 points and made 19-of-35 shots; scored 32 on 13-of-20 shots in win vs OBU)
  • Reggie Murphy, Sr., C, Henderson State (Hit 20-of-29 shots, averaged 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks)
  • Ayo Ojo, Jr., F, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Averaged a double-double, shot 65.0 percent, blocked a total of five shots)
  • Henry Pwono, Sr., F, East Central (Averaged 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals; made 15-of-24 field goals)

NOTABLE WOMEN’S NOMINEES
  • Kamera Bozeman, So., C, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Totaled 18 points and seven rebounds against SWOSU)
  • Aminata Fall, Sr., C, Southern Nazarene (Scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a win at East Central)
  • Chanel Miller, Sr., F, Southern Arkansas (Tallied 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting vs HSU to clinch a GAC Tournament berth)
  • Nikki Mullen, Jr., G, Arkansas-Monticello (Made 7-of-14 3-pointers; averaged 18.0 PPG, shot 57.1 percent from the floor)
  • Jessica Penner, Jr., F, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Made 12-of-16 shots and averaged a double-double in two victories)
  • Arielle Saunders, Sr., F, Harding (Closed her regular-season career by scoring a career-high 30 points vs Ouachita Baptist)
  • Aungelique Sledge, Sr., G, Henderson State (Scored career-high 39 points in win vs OBU; collected a pair of double-doubles)
  • Dilan Webster, Sr., F, East Central (Average 11.0 points and 9.0 rebounds; recorded second double-double of the season)
