RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the final week of the 2014-15 basketball regular season. Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Taylor Smaller claimed the men’s award and Arkansas Tech’s Fatima Adams garnered the women’s award.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Taylor Smaller, Southeastern Oklahoma State, G, Sr., St. Paul, Minnesota
Smaller turned in a pair of stellar efforts to lead the Savage Storm to two wins. In locking up a tournament bid, he matched the GAC season-high of 36 points vs East Central. He hit eight 3-pointers and had a stretch where he scored 17 straight points. Against SWOSU, he made 6-of-12 3-pointers and scored 27 points. For the week, he averaged 31.5 PPG, 5.5 RPG and 5.0 APG.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Fatima Adams, Arkansas Tech, F, Jr., Bryan, Texas
Adams helped the Golden Suns clinch a share of their 24th regular-season title in 38 seasons as she averaged 19.5 points and shot 55.2 percent from the field. In a showdown with Harding, she scored 20 points, made 8-of-13 shots and pulled down 10 rebounds. She added three blocks and three steals. On Saturday, vs UAM, she scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
