 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the eighth week of the 2015 softball season. Henderson State’s Ashlyn White earned the Player of the Week honor while her teammate, Michelle Sorensen, shared the Pitcher of the Week award with Arkansas Tech’s Sydnee Clark.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ashlyn White, Henderson State, DP/P, So., Longview, Texas
White helped the Reddies extend their win streak to nine as she hit .556 with a .667 on-base percentage in a four-game series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State. He hit opened with a double and two RBI in game one. She recorded a multi-homer game in game two and a third home run for the week in game three. She ranks second in the GAC in both home runs and RBI.
 
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Sydnee Clark, Arkansas Tech, RHP, So. Redfield, Arkansas
In her only appearance of the week, Clark threw a no-hitter against the reigning GAC Tournament champion Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders. She no-hit an SAU team that entered the contest with a .325 team batting average and a .541 slugging percentage. She struck out four in improving to 4-2 on the season.
 
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Michelle Sorensen, Henderson State, RHP, Fr., Sherwood, Arkansas
Sorensen earned her second Pitcher of the Week award as she went 2-0 with a save in the Reddies’ four-game sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State. In game one, she no-hit the Rangers in a 3-0 win. She retired the first 15 hitters before issuing her only walk. In 17.0 innings pitched, she struck out 11, allowed only four hits and held the Rangers to a .073 average.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Courtney Colunga, So., 1B/C, Arkansas Tech (Helped ATU go 4-0 as she hit .529 with four RBI and four runs scored)
  • Mackenzie Jones, So., DP/1B, Harding (Went 6-for-15 with three RBI against Delta State and Arkansas-Monticello)
  • Kali Piha, Jr., LF, Arkansas-Monticello (Hit .571 in Cotton Blossoms two-game series against Harding)
  • Jordynn VanPelt, Jr., UTL, East Central (Drove in 11 as she hit .545 with two home runs in series against Southern Nazarene)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Brianna Nunley, Sr., RHP, East Central (Threw a complete-game shutout vs SNU; struck out three and allowed only three hits)
