GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/31/15)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the ninth week of the 2015 softball season. Henderson State’s Sarah Gipson claimed the Player of the Week award while East Central’s Marissa Shaffer and Arkansas Tech’s Morgan Vaughan shared the Pitcher of the Week accolade.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Gipson, Henderson State, 1B, Sr., Grand Saline, Texas
Gipson followed teammates, Keirsten Seahorn and Ashlyn White, as the GAC Player of the Week. He helped the Reddies post a 4-2 record. In a doubleheader split with Ouachita Baptist, she recorded a pair of multi-hit games. In helping Henderson State win three of four vs Northwestern Oklahoma State, she hit .533 with a .650 on-base percentage and she hit two home runs.
 
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Marissa Shaffer, East Central, RHP, Jr., Sasakwa, Oklahoma
Shaffer picked up two wins and a save as part of the Tigers’ 4-1 week. She opened her week by closing out an 11-10 win against Southeastern Oklahoma State with two strikeouts in her lone inning of work. In two games against UAM, she threw two complete games, allowed only seven hits and struck out eight. For the week, she held hitters to a .135 batting average.
 
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Morgan Vaughan, Arkansas Tech, RHP, Fr. Bella Vista, Arkansas
Vaughan became the second-straight Golden Sun to earn the GAC Pitcher of the Week honor as she improved to 7-1 after earning two victories. Against Harding, she threw a complete game with five strikeouts in a 5-1 win. Against Southwestern Oklahoma State, she allowed only four hits and struck out six in a 9-0 complete-game win.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Taylor Davis, Jr., IF, East Central (Reached base 11 times in 18 plate appearances; homered and scored six runs)
  • Marley Edwards, So., 1B, Harding (In helping Lady Bisons go 4-2 in GAC play, she hit .467 with four doubles and five RBI)
  • Jordan Haya, Jr., SS, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Hit four homers and tallied 22 total bases in 18 at bats over six games)
  • Courtney Riddle, Jr., OF/DP, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Drove in eight and scored six times; went 8-for-16 in four games)
  • Whitney Robinson, Sr., OF, Arkansas Tech (Led ATU to a 7-1 week; hit .455 with a .586 on-base percentage; scored seven runs)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Amber Rollins, Sr., RHP, Harding (Went 3-1 with two complete games and a shutout; allowed eight earned runs in 19.0 IP)
