GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (4/14/15)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the 11th week of the 2015 softball season. East Central’s Taylor Davis and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Adrienne Martinez shared the Player of the Week honor and Henderson State’s Michelle Sorensen earned the Pitcher of the Week award.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Taylor Davis, East Central, INF, Jr., Keller, Texas
Davis helped ECU to a 5-1 week. She hit .632 and reached base 18 times in 25 plate appearances. After two multi-hit against Southeastern Oklahoma State, she went 7-for-11 against Southwestern Oklahoma State. In game three, she hit a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning. For the week, she scored nine runs and stole four bases.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Adrienne Martinez, Southwestern Oklahoma State, 1B, Sr., Granada Hills, California
Martinez carried the Bulldog offense through six games last week. She went 10-for-19 with four home runs. She scored nine times and she drove in 16 runs. In a doubleheader sweep against Northwestern Oklahoma State, she went 5-for-8 with a pair of home runs and eight RBI. In the series against East Central, she hit two more home runs. For the week, she slugged 1.211.
 
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Michelle Sorensen, Henderson State, RHP, Fr., Sherwood, Arkansas
Sorensen earned her third GAC Pitcher of the Week award after she went 4-0 in helping the Reddies go 6-0 and remain in first place. She threw the final eight innings of the longest game in GAC history, a 14-inning win vs Harding and twice escaped bases loaded, no out situations. She struck out 17 for the week and limited the opposition to a .145 average.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Ashton Atwell, Jr., RF, Southern Arkansas (Homered three times to increase total to GAC-leading 13; hit .467 with seven RBI)
- Jill Clemence, Jr., OF, Southern Nazarene (Went 11-for-19 in six games; scored four runs and drove in four more runs)
- Taylor Daniels, Jr., OF, Henderson State (Led HSU to a 6-0 week; hit three homers and drove in eight while batting .474)
- Shanna Davidson, Sr., UTL, Arkansas Tech (In helping Golden Suns go 4-2, she hit .571 with three doubles; scored four runs)
- Haley Strawn, Sr., SS, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Hit .625 as SE split with ECU and took three of four from NWOSU)
- Holly Wilmarth, Jr., CF, Arkansas-Monticello (Hit four home runs and slugged 1.050; scored seven times and drove in eight)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Victoria Huie, Sr., RHP, Arkansas Tech (Defeated Ouachita Baptist twice; allowed only one earned run in 11.2 innings pitched)
- Jessica Seay, Jr., RHP, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Went 4-0 to improve to 11-6; struck out 17 and issued only one walk)
- Marissa Shaffer, Jr., RHP, East Central (Threw two shutouts, held opponents to a .159 average; struck out 15 in 19.0 IP)
- Katie Slaughter, Sr., RHP, Arkansas-Monticello (In five appearances, threw three complete games; posted a 15:2 K:BB ratio)
