HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Henderson State shot a GAC Men’s Golf Championship record-tying team score of 1-under 287 on the Arlington Course at Hot Springs Country Club to take over the top position after the second round of the 2015 GAC Men’s Golf Championships.
Drew Greenwood and Brice Howard paced the Reddies with 1-under-par rounds. Each opened with 72s on Sunday. They share second place in the individual race. Price Murphree added an even-par 72 and Mauricio Lira carded a 1-over 73. The Reddies’ 287 team score equaled the team score record of 287 set by East Central in the second round of the 2013 Championships.
Arkansas Tech also made a move up the leaderboard on Monday. After finishing the first round in a tie for fifth, the Wonder Boys shot a 2-over 290 to move into second place, eight strokes back of the Reddies. Brian Belz continued to set the pace in on the individual leaderboard as his even-par round left him with a two-day total of 3-under, two strokes ahead of the field. Julio Arguelles and Alex Mahlik contributed with matching 72s.
2015 GAC Men's Golf Championship Second Round Results || Final Round Pairings
First-round leader Southern Nazarene dropped back to third place following a second-round score of 304, 15 shots higher than Sunday. Cristian Valderrama remained in the top 10 as he shot a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for seventh place. Michael Hearne improved by one shot in the second round and his two-round total of 147 leaves him six back of the leaders.
Southwestern Oklahoma State climbed from seventh place to fourth place with a second round total of 298. Manuel Arzuaga fired a 1-under 71 to share second place with Greenwood and Howard. Seth Overstreet improved by seven shots with an even-par round of 72.
Arkansas-Monticello fell back on position to fifth place, one shot ahead of Southeastern Oklahoma State and four shots ahead of Southern Arkansas. Theodor Karlsson continued his strong tournament with an even-par round to move up to fifth position. SAU’s George Adams, co-leader after the first round, shot a 77 and finished in a tie for seventh place.
Harding cut five shots off its first-round score to move up one place to eighth. Freshman Mason Banger shot a 75 to close the round in 13th. Alex Williamson posted the low round for the Bisons, a one-over 73. East Central dropped down to ninth. Jason Goben and Jordan Bates, after each shooting 71s in the first round, shot 75s on Monday to finish tied for seventh place.
The final round will begin at 7:30 AM on Tuesday. Ouachita Baptist’s Shane Starkey and Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Brennan Montgomery will open the round of the Arlington Course. Henderson, Arkansas Tech and Southern Nazarene will begin at 10 AM.
