GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (4/28/15)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the final week of the 2015 softball season. Southern Arkansas’ Chelsea Ivy earned the Player of the Week honor and Northwestern Oklahoma State’s Allora Miller claimed the Pitcher of the Week award.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Chelsea Ivy, Southern Arkansas, 2B, Sr., Bloomburg, Texas
Ivy had a monster week for the Lady Muleriders as she recorded five multi-hit games. In total, she hit .545 for the week, going 12-for-22 with a home run and 10 RBI. In the three-game series at Southwestern Oklahoma, Ivy went 6-for-12 with two runs scored and eight RBI. In each of the final two games of that series, Ivy notched four RBI.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Allora Miller, Northwestern Oklahoma State, LHP, Sr., Fort Myers, Florida.
Miller picked up two wins during the final week of the season. In her first start, she struck out six in tossing the first no-hitter of her career, a 2-0 win against Fort Hays State. She followed up that performance by striking out 11 in a complete-game victory against Arkansas-Monticello. For the week she struck out 20 in 17.0 innings.
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Carolyn Clayton, Sr., RF, Harding (Racked up 23 total bases in only 16 at bats; homered three times, posted a .684 OBP)
- Jordan Haya, Jr., SS, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Homered three times; drove in eight as Rangers went 5-1)
- Tricia Hock, Sr., 2B, Henderson State (Recorded at least one hit in all four games vs SE; helped HSU clinch first softball title)
- Ashley Savage, So., OF, Arkansas Tech (Hit a pair of home runs; drove in four; delivered a game-winning RBI single in finale)
- Autumn Suydam, Jr., OF, East Central (Led Tigers to a four-game sweep of OBU; hit .500 with five runs scored and four RBI)
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Jami Godwin, Fr., RHP, Southern Arkansas (Picked up two wins in relief vs SWOSU to secure a GAC Championship berth)
- Michelle Sorensen, Fr., RHP, Henderson State (Did not allow an earned run in 14.0 IP vs Southeastern; struck out 10)
- Marissa Shaffer, Jr., RHP, East Central (Improved to 12-6 as she beat OBU twice; threw a shutout in game one)
