GAC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (1/4/16)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s women’s and men’s basketball players of the week for the eighth week of the 2015-16 season. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Jessica Penner received the women’s accolade and East Central’s Braxton Reeves claimed the men’s award.
 
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jessica Penner, Southwestern Oklahoma State, F, Sr., Cordell, Oklahoma
Penner scored 19 points off the bench in both games as the Lady Bulldogs defeated in-state foes Northeastern State and University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. She did not miss a shot against Northeastern, shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the field. She followed up with 19 points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes of action against USAO
 
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Braxton Reeves, East Central, G, Jr., Fort Worth, Texas
Reeves scored a career-high 28 points in a 91-87 victory against Missouri-St. Louis. He went 9-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the 3-point arc. He added a season-high five assists and two steals, along with four rebounds. He finished the victory as one of two Tigers in the game (Stirling Thomas) with 28 points and four rebounds.
 
NOTABLE WOMEN’S NOMINEES
- Aalyiah Blakely, So., F, East Central (Tallied 10 points and two 3-point field goals against Central Oklahoma)
- Shana Holmes, Sr., G, Southern Arkansas (Totaled 22 points, seven assists and six rebounds in a win against Philander Smith)
- Katie Kapler, Jr., P, Ouachita (Scored 30 points on 10-of-12 shooting with seven rebounds vs Blue Mountain College)
- Ayesha Wahid, Fr., G, Arkansas-Monticello (Hit 11-of-14 field goals and collected 26 points, five rebounds and three steals)
- Lundon Williams, So., G, Harding (Williams scored a career-high 22 points in Harding's victory against Christian Brothers)
 
NOTABLE MEN’S NOMINEES
- Markeise Champion, Jr., G, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Tied a school record by hitting all six of his three-point attempts)
