GAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (2/8/16)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the second week of the 2016 baseball season. Arkansas Tech’s Josh Watkins earned the Player of the Week honor and Southern Arkansas’ Kenneth Tabor received the Pitcher of the Week award.
 
GAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Josh Watkins, Arkansas Tech, RF, Sr., Hope Hull, Alabama
Watkins posted a .571 average in the Wonder Boys’ series with Missouri Western State. In Tech’s home opener, he went 5-for-6 with a double and a triple in an 8-7 12-inning victory. After collecting a hit in four at bats in game two, he tallied two more hits and two runs scored in the finale, a 7-6 win.
 
GAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kenneth Tabor, Southern Arkansas, LHP, Sr., Plano, Texas
Tabor won his first collegiate start last weekend as he worked 6.0 innings of shutout baseball en route to a 7-1 victory against East Central at the SAU Division II Classic at the Ballpark. In those six innings, Tabor struck out eight Tigers and limited ECU to only three base hits.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Evan Comeau, Sr., SS, Arkansas-Monticello (Drove in four and scored three runs at the Houston Winter Invitational)
- Jakahari Howell, So., CF, Ouachita (Doubled twice and hit .364 in three-game series with Union)
- Jacob Long, Jr., OF, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Went 6-for-14 with two stolen bases against Arkansas-Fort Smith)
- Thomas McGarry, Jr., UTL, East Central (Collected six hits with three doubles and five RBIs at SAU Division II Classic)
- Jordan Taylor, Jr., UTL, Henderson State (Hit .455 with five RBIs at the Houston Winter Invitational)
- Jake Tisevich, So., OF, Southern Arkansas (Went 4-for-7 in two games at the SAU Division II Classic at the Ballpark)
- Cody Ziegler, So., C, Oklahoma Baptist (Homered three times, drove in six and scored eight runs against York College)

PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
- Branden Bohuslav, Jr., RHP, Arkansas Tech (In two relief stints, threw 3.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts; earned a win)
- Nathan Thompson, Sr., LHP, Oklahoma Baptist (Tossed 5.0 shutout innings and earned the victory against York)
