GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (2/9/16)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the second week of the 2016 softball season. Southern Arkansas’ Darian Harris and Kaylee Garner received the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Darian Harris, Southern Arkansas, 1B, Sr., Brazoria, Texas
Harris swung a hot bat in six games for Southern Arkansas in its opening weekend of action, leading the Lady Muleriders to a 6-0 start. The Brazoria, Texas, native slugged 1.786 and batted .571 (8-14). She drove in a dozen runs and scored ten. Seven of her eight hits went for extra bases as she produced one double, two triples and four home runs.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Kaylee Garner, Southern Arkansas, RHP, Jr., Danbury, Texas
Garner fired the third perfect game in program history, while striking out ten batters, in an 8-0 season-opening win over Lincoln University. The Danbury, Texas, native surrendered three hits, two walks and one earned run in 15.0 innings of work. She struck out 21 batters in posting a 3-0 record with a 0.47 ERA during Southern Arkansas' opening weekend.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Kinsey Beck, Sr., 2B, Harding (Went 2-for-3 against both Mississippi College and Missouri Western)
- Jalissa Gum, Jr., P/UTL, Arkansas Tech (Started in the circle and threw a complete game no-hitter. Also had 8 RBIs)
- Jordan Haya, Sr., OF, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Finished with nine total bases and a .643 slugging percentage)
- Jessica Simmons, Sr., 2B, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Slugged .700 and stole six bases in six games)
- Sydni Toilolo, Jr., INF, Southern Nazarene (Went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in SNU’s 4-0 win against Rockhurst)
- Holly Wilmarth, Sr., CF, Arkansas-Monticello (Finished with a 1.077 slugging percentage and three homeruns)
PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Macy Nantz, Jr., P/1B, Ouachita (Struck out 17 batters in 14.0 innings and also went 2-0 for the week)
- Lacey Paulk, Sr., RHP, East Central (Threw both games from the weekend where ECU played a ranked team, shutting out one)
- Michelle Sorensen, So., P/DH, Henderson State (Pitched a no-hitter against ESU, including seven strikeouts)
- Morgan Vaughn, So. P, Arkansas Tech (Struck out 18 batters in 16.0 innings and also went 3-0 for the week)
- Kayla Wyatt, Sr., P, Southern Nazarene (Maintained a .100 opponent batting average, struck out 18 in 15.1 innings pitched)
