GAC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/1/16)

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the fifth week of the 2016 softball season. Arkansas Tech’s Jalissa Gum and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Jessica Seay received the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively.
GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jalissa Gum, Arkansas Tech, UTL, Jr., Red Rock, Oklahoma
Gum batted .500 with five runs, four RBIs, and three doubles as the Golden Suns swept defending GAC regular-season champion Henderson State. She also contributed in the circle as she recorded a complete-game one-hitter in the series opener. She struck out 16 Reddies, one strikeout off the GAC single-game record.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Jessica Seay, Southeastern Oklahoma State, RHP, Jr., Harrah, Oklahoma
In four weekend appearances against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Seay threw two complete games, including a shutout, and added a save. Seay registered 21 strikeouts against only one walk and she the limited the Bulldogs to a .213 batting average.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Kinsey Beck, Sr., 2B, Harding (Extended hitting streak to 18 games; has recorded a hit in every game this season)
- Kali Bolter, Fr., OF, Arkansas-Monticello (Successfully recorded at least one hit in each game against Oklahoma Baptist)
- Taylor Davis, Sr., UTL, East Central (Hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam against Northwestern Oklahoma State)
- Maddie Dow, Jr., DP/UTL, Southern Arkansas (Tied a career-high with three homers in one game; had 10 RBI vs SNU)
- Peyton Garrett, So., OF, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Batted .308 with one double and one run vs East Central)
- Hannah LeBeau, Jr., C, SNU (Batted .600 with six RBI and two home runs; also slugged 1.400)
- Jessica Simmons, Sr., 2B, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Led Southeastern to its second straight GAC sweep; stole five bases)
- Madison Vaughan, Jr., C/OF, Oklahoma Baptist (Batted .533 with six RBI and two home runs; slugged 1.067)
PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
- Kimmy Beasley, Sr., LHP, Southern Arkansas (Threw complete game four-hitter in series finale at SNU to improve to 8-0)
- Madison Garza, So., P, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Pitched two complete game shutouts; gave up three runs in 14.1 IP)
- Hannah Johnson, Jr., P, Harding (Threw complete-game vs Ouachita; gave up two runs with three strikeouts in win)
- Marissa Shaffer, Sr., P, East Central (Pitched two complete games, one being a shutout; posted a 0.50 ERA in 14.0 IP)
- Kayla Wyatt, Sr., RHP, Southern Nazarene (Went 2-0 with 25 strikeouts in three appearances vs previously undefeated SAU)
