BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Arkansas Tech’s Kelsey McClure found Aujana Dawkins for the game-winning basket as time expired to give the Golden Suns a thrilling 60-58 victory against Arkansas-Monticello in the third quarterfinal contest of the 2016 Great American Conference Women’s Basketball Championship on Friday from Bruin Fieldhouse.

The Golden Suns (24-3) trailed the Blossoms (13-14) 33-32 at halftime, just the fifth time in 27 games this season that they entered the break at a deficit. Tech pulled ahead early in the second half, however, the game remained tight throughout the duration of the contest as neither team led by more than seven points the entire game. Over the final 7:01 no team held greater than a three-point advantage.

UAM took its first lead of the fourth quarter with 2:10 left on a layup by Ayeshia Wahid. McClure answered with a successful drive to basket a minute later. Tech’s advantage remained one until the Blossoms’ Jordan Goforth converted 1-of-2 free throws with 4.3 seconds remaining to tie the game.

Following a time out, McClure made a drive to the basket and shoveled a pass to Dawkins underneath the hoop for the winning layup. Video review upheld the call on the floor and Arkansas Tech had earned a spot in the GAC semifinals for the fourth-straight season.

McClure finished with a game-high 13 points off the bench, on 6-of-7 from the floor. Fatima Adams, the GAC Player of the Year, and Bre Brooks added 11 points each, respectively. In addition to her game-winning basket, Dawkins led the Golden Suns with 10 rebounds.

In the final game of her game, Goforth, a First-Team All-GAC selection, finished with 11 points and a career-high 20 rebounds on the night. She finished her career as the GAC’s all-time leading scorer and fifth on UAM’s list with 1,803 points. Wahid also reached double figures with 12 points.

Arkansas Tech will face the winner of Southern Arkansas and Henderson State in Saturday’s second women’s semifinal, set for 8:00 PM on GACSportsNetwork.com. The Golden Suns swept both the Lady Muleriders and Reddies during the regular season this year.
