RESULTS || SEARCY, Ark. - Harding's men and women both lead after Friday's competitions of the 2017 Great American Conference Track & Field Championships from Ted Lloyd Track Stadium.
The men totaled 97 points, 46 clear of Southern Arkansas, with Oklahoma Christian in third with 11 points and East Central in fourth. The Lady Bisons lead Southern Arkansas and Oklahoma Christian by 35 points. Rogers State closed Friday in fourth with East Central, Southern Nazarene and Southwestern Oklahoma State tied for fifth.
Oklahoma Baptist's Andrew Worley won the decathlon with 6,456 points - nearly 500 points ahead of his nearest competitor while the Lady Bison's Lacey Herbert claimed the win in the heptathlon.
In the completed field events, Southern Arkansas' Erica Fuller and Harding's Josh Syrotchen earned the titles in the hammer throw. In the triple jump, Rogers State's Vivian Walters and SAU's Aurthur Jeffrey turned in the best marks.
Oklahoma Baptist's Emily Sechrist claimed victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:52.55, a time faster than that NCAA Division II Provisional mark. In the men's race Harding's Daniel Evans earned a DII Provision mark after winning with a time of 9:14.57.
In the final event of the night, East Central's Michaela Lombardi and Oklahoma Christian's Kyle Broaddrick earned the top spots in the 10,000-meter run.
Saturday's competition begins at 10 a.m. with the long jump, high jump and javelin. The other events include the pole vault, discus, shot put, the 400-meter relay, the 1500-meter run, the 100- and 110-meter hurdles, the 400-meter dash, the 100-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the 400-meter hurdles, the 200-meter run, the 5000-meter run and the 1600-meter relay.
