GOLDEN SUNS TAKE FOUR-SHOT LEAD AT GAC WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

 RESULTS || HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Led by Arkansas Tech, the Central Region’s top-ranked school, the Great American Conference’s three-regionally ranked programs separated from the pack after Sunday’s opening round of the GAC Women’s Golf Championships from the Park Course at Hot Springs Country Club.
 
The Golden Suns placed four inside the top 11, led by Caroline Fredensborg, who finished the day in second after carding a 1-over par 73. She made three birdies in her round. Pia Nunbhakdi, last year’s GAC individual medalist, shared fourth place with Avery Struck and Anna Frandsen posted an 80 to tie for 11th.
 
Henderson State, the No. 4 school in the region, finished Sunday four shots in back of Arkansas Tech. Sarah Wright posted the lone sub-par round of the day as she shot a 1-under 71. She matched Fredensborg with three birdies in turning in her second-best score of the year. Hanna Brauburger and GAC Freshman of the Year Taylor Loeb finished inside the top 10 while Luisa Gartmann’s 81 left her in a tie for 15th.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State, second in the Central Region, ended Sunday in third, six in back of Arkansas Tech and two behind Henderson State. Elin Wahlin paced the Lady Bulldogs with a 2-over 74; good enough for third place after 18 holes. GAC Player of the Year Gloria Choi shared sixth after posting a 77, Emily Folsom’s 78 left her in eighth position and Jenna Eidem carded an 80, to tie for 11th.
 
Arkansas-Monticello finished the day in fourth, followed by Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Frida Rydberg and Lauren Johnson each ended Sunday inside the top 15. The Crimson Storm’s Heidi Stafford shot a 79 and found herself in 10th place. Kelsi Wilson led the Rangers with an 81.
 
Southern Arkansas ended Sunday in seventh with Harding in eighth. Gabriela Clamence posted the low round of the day for the Lady Muleriders with an 80.Competing as individuals, Emma Williams turned in the best score for Oklahoma Baptist as she registered an 81.
 
Monday’s second round begins at 7:30 a.m. with the members of the Rangers, Lady Muleriders and Lady Bisons in the first pairings.
