RESULTS || HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Henderson State posted the lowest 18-hole scoring mark in Great American Conference Men’s Golf Championship history as the Reddies shot a 12-under par 276 to move into first place after two rounds from the Arlington Course at Hot Springs Country Club.
Nick Shapiro spearheaded Henderson State’s round as he carded a 7-under 65 to move into first place in the individual competition. His front nine featured four straight birdies and he made a total of eight for the round. Drew Greenwood and Price Murphree also broke par as Greenwood shot a 69 and Murphree turned in a 70. All three finished inside the top seven. The 12-under score broke the GAC Championship 18-hole record, set by the Reddies in last year’s final round.
Arkansas Tech dropped back into second place. Austin Smith, the 18-hole leader, shot a 74 for two-day total of 4-under, one shot behind Shapiro. Luke Cornett recorded the low round of the day for the Wonder Boys, a 2-under 70 and a 36-hole scored of 2-under 142, good enough for fifth place. Putter Srinoon added a 71 and finished in eighth.
Southwestern Oklahoma State posted its second consecutive round of 295 to close in a tie for third. The four scoring golfers all turned in rounds between 72 and 75. GAC Player of the Year Stefan Idstam, Marques Gomez and Kason Cook all shared ninth place at 2-over.
Harding joined SWOSU in joint third position. Juan Luis Sanchez shot a 73 for the second-straight day to tie for ninth, alongside Alex Williamson. Southern Arkansas improved by nine shots on Monday and moved up one position to fifth. Calum Graham recorded the Muleriders’ best round, a 1-under 71.
Southern Nazarene took sixth followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Savage Storm’s Hayden Foster improved upon his opening round 71 with a 2-under 70 that kept him in third place.
Oklahoma Baptist’s Kyle Perdew joined Foster as the only two players to have consecutive sub-par rounds. He backed up his Sunday round of 70 with a two-birdie, one-bogey round of 71 to share third place.
Arkansas-Monticello and Northwestern Oklahoma State rounded out the field. Tuesday’s final round begins at 7:30 a.m. with the members of the Weevils and Rangers hitting the opening tee shots.
