SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE WINS 2018 GAC MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP
BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Top seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State held off Harding, 5-3, to claim the GAC Men's Tennis Tournament Championship on Saturday from Memorial Park.
The Savage Storm, ranked 32nd in Division II and fourth in the Central Region, took a pair of wins at doubles to grab the lead in the fiercely contested match that and at times reached contentious levels.
After Matias Vargas and Milos Vuckovic registered an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles for the Savage Storm, the Bisons evened the match when Morgan Salvan and Alejandro Sendra knocked off Carlos Anez and Ondrej Nice, the No. 12 doubles tandem in Division II, 8-6. Danrich Kruger and Sandro Lena won at No. 2 doubles for the 2-1 Savage Storm advantage.
Sendra scored the first point in the singles portion as Nice retired after losing the opening set. Jeremy Despont and Anez tallied straight-set victories at No. 6 and No. 1 for the Savage Storm. Salvan provided the second singles point for the Bisons, but Vargas clinched the Southeastern victory with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.win at No. 5 singles.
The win represented the second GAC title for the program. The Savage Storm previously claimed the crown in 2016.
