SEARCY, Ark. — Top-seeded Harding dominated No. 4 Northwestern Oklahoma State, winning 4-0 on Friday to advance to the Great American Conference Women's Soccer Tournament championship game.
The game, held at the Stevens Soccer Complex, marked the Lady Bisons' first appearance in the GAC title game since 2017. Harding last claimed the GAC Championship in 2016, and last won the title on its home turf in 2015.
Harding opened the scoring in the 16th minute (15:28) when defender Calle Citty headed in a corner kick from Kloey Fullerton. It was Citty's team-leading sixth goal of the season, while Fullerton logged her team-leading eighth assist. Fullerton's assist total is the highest by a Harding player since Audrey Adkison recorded nine in 2015.
Northwestern Oklahoma State threatened to equalize later in the half, but Harding goalkeeper Maysa Willis kept the Lady Bisons in the lead with a key save against Luana San Miguel in a 1-on-1 situation in the 31st minute (30:49). Harding took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Lady Bisons exploded for three goals in the second half, with the surge starting in the 77th minute (76:15) when Kloey Fullerton netted her fourth goal of the season, bending a corner kick directly inside the near post.
Just 29 seconds later, Sami Berry extended the lead to 3-0, collecting a loose ball near the top of the 18-yard box and beating Northwestern Oklahoma goalkeeper Taylor Annen to the left side for her third goal of the year.
Harding capped the scoring in the 81st minute (80:38). Fullerton lofted another corner kick into the box, which Citty headed back toward the goal, allowing Whitney Thomas to head it in for her sixth goal of the season.
Willis recorded four saves in her sixth shutout of the season. Harding outshot the Rangers 15-9 overall and held a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Bisons also controlled corner kicks, earning 11 to Northwestern's four. Harding previously defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State twice during the regular season, winning 3-0 and 3-1.
The Lady Bisons will compete for the GAC title on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Stevens Soccer Complex against No. 3 Ouachita Baptist.
