LIBERTY, Mo. – D2Football.com has selected four football players from the Great American Conference to its preseason all-America squad.
Southeastern Oklahoma State University junior tight end Ryan Shelley and East Central University junior defensive lineman Armonty Bryant have earned first team preseason all-America honors, while Henderson State University senior tight end Sean McGrath and University of Arkansas at Monticello senior punter Derek Jambon have made the second team.
Shelley led the Savage Storm in 2010 in all major receiving categories with 42 receptions for 494 yards, including seven touchdown catches. Those season totals led to a first team All-Lone Star Conference selection for the Irving, Texas native.
Bryant adds his third preseason all-America selection to his 2011 resume. The Wichita Falls, Texas native has already been honored as a preseason all-America honoree by Lindy’s Magazine and the Consensus Draft Services. In 2010, Bryant ranked third in the nation with a total of 13.5 quarterback sacks. He was also among the nation’s leader in tackles for loss with 19. His final numbers from 2010 led to first team all-America honors from D2Football.com and second team honors from Daktronics.
McGrath helped the Reddies capture a share of the Gulf South Conference title in 2010 by netting 55 receptions for 656 yards, including four touchdown catches. The Chicago, Ill. native was honored as a first team All-GSC selection as well as a Daktronics All-South Region first team selection.
Jambon broke UAM’s single-season record for punting average in 2010 with 52 punts for 2,308 yards, averaging out to 44.4 yards per kick. The Marrero, La. native earned first team All-GSC honors as well as all-America honors from D2Football.com and the Associated Press.
