2012 GAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP HOME PAGE
BENTONVILLE, Ark. – No. 1 seed Arkansas-Monticello and No. 2 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State will meet in the finals of the inaugural Great American Conference Softball Championship Tournament on Saturday at the Tiger Athletic Complex in Bentonville. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
Southeastern Oklahoma State, the winner of three games on Friday and the finalist from the loser’s bracket, will need to defeat Arkansas-Monticello twice on Saturday to claim the league’s first ever conference tournament title.
Arkansas-Monticello advanced to the finals in convincing fashion on Friday, capturing an 8-0, five-inning win over No. 6 seed Southern Arkansas. The Cotton Blossoms have only allowed one run in three games of the tournament, highlighted by three complete-game victories from GAC pitcher of the year Kayla Jackson.
In the lower half of the bracket, Southwestern Oklahoma State opened the day with a 6-1 win over Arkansas Tech, but fell to Southeastern Oklahoma State 1-0 in the second game of the day in a pitching duel between Kelsey Reding and Audra Rhudy of SOSU and Katrina Johnson of SWOSU.
Before Southeastern’s win over SWOSU, the Savage Storm defeated Henderson State 4-2 to eliminate the Lady Reddies.
No. 6 seed Southern Arkansas was eliminated from the tournament on Friday after picking up a pair of upset wins on Thursday. The Lady Muleriders were defeated by Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-1 in the final game on Friday.
