ENID, Okla. – No. 5 seed Ouachita Baptist used a game-ending, bases-loaded hit from Duncan Collins in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat No. 2 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State by a final score of 5-4 (BOX SCORE) on Sunday in the loser’s bracket finals of the inaugural Great American Conference Baseball Championship Tournament.
Ouachita Baptist (29-25) led 4-3 heading into the ninth, but Southeastern left fielder Blake Gentry came through with an RBI single to center field that scored Keith Price, who was hit the first pitch of the inning, stole secondbase and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Chad Colbert.
OBU started the game’s scoring with a pair or runs in the bottom of the first inning. Parker Norris drew a bases-loaded walk followed by an RBI single from Landon Flax.
Southeastern (34-17) answered in the top of the second with a solo homerun from Corey Green, his third round-tripper of the season.
OBU went up 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth following a two-run single from Matt Balogh to score Parker Norris and Landon Flax. Both Norris and Flax reachedbase on a walk and then executed a double steal.
The Savage Storm trimmed the lead to 4-2 with a solo homerun from Nick Grimmett in top of the seventh, his third of the year. Teammate Dalton Nelson pulled the Storm to within one run with an RBI sacrifice fly in the eighth to score Peter Bako, who doubled earlier in the frame.
Zac Treece (7-2) earned the win for OBU after allowing just one run off three hits with one strikeout and no walks in the final 1.2 innings. Brandon Marris (11-4) was saddled with the loss for SOSU after allowing the winning run off three hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the final 1.1 innings.
The Tigers advance into the GAC finals to face No. 1 seed Southern Arkansas at noon on Monday.
