GAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/24/2014)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southern Arkansas’ Trevor Rucker and Henderson State’s Colton Lorance captured the Great American Conference’s baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the eighth week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Monday.
 
GAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Trevor Rucker, Southern Arkansas, LF, Fr., Prescott, Ark.
Rucker put together an outstanding week as he helped the No. 4/5 Muleriders to a 3-1 week. During the week, Rucker had at least one hit and multiple RBI in all four games played. He went 7-for-14 with 10 RBI and four runs scored. He notched his first career home run, a three-run shot in SAU's 12-2 win against No. 13/17 Arkansas Tech on Friday.
 
GAC BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Colton Lorance, Henderson State, LHP, Jr., Texarkana, Texas
Helped lead Henderson State to its first series sweep of the year as the Reddies took three from Northwestern Oklahoma State. In the series opener, he threw seven innings and allowed only three hits. Over one span, he retired 11 straight batters. He struck out a season best six batters and gave up his only run in his final inning of work.

  • Garrett Donohoe, IF, Jr., East Central (Extended hit streak to 12; went 10-for-22 with four doubles in six games, all ECU wins)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                  
  • Kade Garlington, RHP, Sr., Arkansas-Monticello (Pitched 6.1 innings in a combined shutout of No. 30 Harding)
  • Oscar Gomez, RHP, Jr., East Central (Earned a pair of victories – vs Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene; threw 12.0 IP)
  • Dylan Lynn, RHP, Sr., Southern Arkansas (Notched eight strikeouts and did not issue a walk to beat No. 13/17 Arkansas Tech)
  • Jaime Paxton, RHP, Sr., Southeastern Oklahoma State (Struck out six in 6.0 IP vs McMurry; allowed only two unearned runs)
