RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech’s Rebecka Surtevall made Great American Conference history as she became the athlete in any GAC sport to earn four straight Player of the Year awards headlining the GAC Women’s Golf All-Conference and individual awards announced on Friday morning.
Surtevall led the Golden Suns to their first GAC Women’s Golf Championship earlier in the week as she finished in second place. The Golden Suns won the event by a GAC-record 50 strokes. During the regular season, Surtevall won three times during the season. She picked up victories at the Golfweek Fall Invitational, the GAC Preview and Holiday Inn Express Classic. She finished the regular season ranked 13th in the GolfStat.com Division II rankings.
Arkansas Tech placed a total of four golfers on the All-Conference team. Megan Jeffery joined Surtevall on the First Team for the second straight year. Jeffery won at the Northeastern State Classic in September and shared medalist honors with Surtevall at the GAC Preview. Taylor Kline and Caroline Fredensborg earned Second Team honors while Jessica Sachs landed on the Honorable Mention team. Kline joined Surtevall as Four-Time All-GAC selections and Fredensborg became a two-time All-GAC honoree.
2015 ALL-GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE GOLF TEAMS
Harding’s Brittany Marquez closed out her GAC career by winning the GAC Championships on Tuesday with a record score and by a record margin. She joined Surtevall as the first four-time First-Team GAC selections. In addition to her win at the GAC Championships, she finished inside the top 10 in all but one of her nine events.
Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma State each placed one golfer on all three All-Conference teams. SWOSU’s Ana Laura Gomez earned First-Team All-GAC honors for the third straight year and the Reddies’ Ally Harris placed on an All-GAC team for the second time in her career. Gomez won the Fall Central Region Preview and Harris recorded three top-five finishes.
The Reddies’ Katie Kilponen placed on the Second Team and Erin Brown earned Honorable Mention status. SWOSU’s Margaret Musser landed on the Second Team and Emily Folsom placed on the Honorable Mention list. Folsom also earned the GAC Freshman of the Year honor. She recorded seven top-25 finishes and she capped her freshman campaign by placing 10th at the GAC Championships.
Arkansas-Monticello put two on the All-GAC teams. Lauren Johnson picked up Second-Team All-GAC honors and Frida Rydberg landed on the Honorable Mention list. Southern Nazarene’s Marion Broedys rounded out the Honorable Mention squad.
