RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s football awards for seventh week of the 2019 season. Southern Arkansas’s Hayden Mallory earned the Offensive accolade; Arkansas Tech’s Tre Chism claimed the Defensive honor and Henderson State’s Braden Boykin won the Special Teams award.
GAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Hayden Mallory, Southern Arkansas, QB, Jr., Gonzalez, Louisiana
Mallory turned in an efficient performance in the Muleriders’ 49-7 home victory against Southeastern Oklahoma State. He completed 11-of-14 passes for 311 yards with four touchdown passes. In his last three games, he has nine touchdown passes against only eight incompletions. He owns an 83.3 percent completion percentage in that span.
GAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tre Chism, Arkansas Tech, DT, Jr., Little Rock, Arkansas
Chism dominated from his defensive tackle position as the Wonder Boys picked up their first win of the season. He notched eight tackles against Northwestern Oklahoma State. He tallied 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. The 5.5 tackles for loss matched the single-game high in GAC history and the 3.0 sacks tied for the second best single-game effort in Tech history.
GAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Braden Boykin, Henderson State, PR, Jr., Madison, Mississippi
Boykin registered his longest punt return of the year and the 10th longest in school history when he returned one 78 yards for a touchdown in the Reddies’ 48-17 win against East Central. His return represented the first punt return touchdown for the Reddies since November 2, 2013. He leads the GAC and ranks third in the nation averaging 17.4 yards per punt return.
