 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the GAC/MIAA men’s soccer awards for the fifth week of the 2019 season. Southern Nazarene’s Guy Esquivel captured the Offensive Player honor while Rogers State’s Michael Turner and Austin Wormell claimed the Defender and Goalkeeper accolades.
 
GAC/MIAA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Guy Esquivel, Southern Nazarene, F, Fr., Carrollton, Texas
Esquivel led the Crimson Storm offense in their 5-1 victory against Oklahoma Baptist for their first GAC win of the season. Southern Nazarene snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Bison. He netted his first goal on a feed from Angel Lopez in the 59th minute. Five minutes later he scored off of a pass from Caleb Gray to register the first multi-goal game of his career.
 
GAC/MIAA DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Michael Turner, Rogers State, D, Jr., Ramford, England
Turner anchored a Hillcat defense that shut out Northeastern State 2-0 on Friday – the first time in five GAC contests that the a team had blanked the RiverHawks. Turner contributed to both goals on set pieces as he provided the primary assist for both goals.
 
GAC/MIAA GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Austin Wormell, Rogers State, So., Tulsa, Oklahoma
Austin Wormell helped the Hillcats pick up a key victory at Northeastern State in a battle of two teams both had received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. Wormell made nine saves in the 2-0 victory to notch his second shutout of the season. The shutout represented just the third time this year that the RiverHawks failed to score.
