HAYS, Kan. – Rogers State punched its ticket to the GAC/MIAA Men’s Soccer Championship final on Sunday with a 2-0 victory against Northeastern State in Friday’s semifinal hosted at FHSU Soccer Stadium.

The Hillcats took the lead in the 35th minute on a goal from freshman Luke Morgan. The midfielder jumped on a failed clearance attempt from a RiverHawks defender and smashed a goal just inside the left post from the top of the box for his third goal of the season.

In the second half, senior Jake Simpson scored a record goal to secure the Hillcats victory, doubling the advantage. Simpson took a pass from Jordan Watson and worked his way across the top of the box to the right before firing a shot his 14th goal of the season into the lower right corner.

Simpson's 14th goal sets a new single season school record for the Cambridge, England native, as he surpassed Desmond Fitzgerald's 13 goals in 2009.

Defensively, goalkeeper Dillon Dean would be tested four times in the game, but the Mustang, Oklahoma native stopped all four shots on target for his fifth shutout of the season and his seventh win of the campaign.

The win for Rogers State also matches the record for wins in a single-season of 13, set in 2009. Both seasons include 12 regular-season wins and one postseason victory.

Rogers State will return to action on Sunday and play host and regular season champion Fort Hays State for the GAC/MIAA Conference Championship. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
